Summer Solstice 2011 at Stonehenge
June 21, 2011 No Comments
Every year many people gather at Stonehenge for the annual summer solstice (June 21st). Summer solstice is the day in which the Earth’s North axis is closest to the Sun. This happens to place the Sun inline with the Tropic of Cancer (23° 26′ North Latitude) and as such gives the Northern Hemisphere the most daylight of the year.
Stonehenge is a popular place to celebrate the Summer Solstice as it is believed to be a huge gathering spot for the pagan druids of yesteryear. Tons of holistic, neo-pagans, witches and more gather at Stonehenge to celebrate.
I wish I was there right now. I have been fascinated by Stonehenge for years and would love to get a chance to take part in the celebrations.
